How Many Sessions Are Required to Remove a Tattoo?

If you have an older tattoo that you no longer like or have a recent tattoo that doesn’t quite look the way you wanted it to, then you’ve come to the right place.

With a business that’s built on personal experience, boasting a combination of learned expertise and comprehensive research into the very best equipment to get the job done, laser tattoo removal is our speciality – with our team ranked as one of the best in London.

Of course, when it comes to tattoo removal, the first thing that all clients need to understand is the diversity of cases. Every tattoo is different, and each client’s skin reacts differently to the laser and its interaction with the tattoo ink.

Building a Bespoke Package of Laser Tattoo Removal Sessions

Contrary to popular belief, the average number of sessions required for tattoo removal doesn’t depend on the size of the tattoo or its location. Rather, the number of sessions is directly impacted by the ink used by your original tattoo artist.

Different inks respond to the laser in different ways, with various coloured tattoos also dispersing and fading at different rates.

As such, every client that we meet benefits from a consultation during which we will look at the tattoo and provide an estimate as to how many sessions will be required. This is subject to change as the sessions are carried out, depending on how the ink responds to the laser.

What to Expect from Each Laser Tattoo Removal Session

Each session uses a targeted laser, which directs pulses of light into the skin. These pulses of light penetrate the tattoo ink and break it up into smaller particles, which are then ultimately flushed from the system via natural detoxing.

Because some inks are more susceptible to this laser treatment, while others are more stubborn, it’s very difficult to assess how many sessions will be required until we get started. However, usually the Candela Picoway that we use can remove a tattoo in less than six sessions, with our advice to clients being to leave around 6-8 weeks between sessions.

While this undoubtedly equates to a lengthy and drawn-out process, it does mean that the skin has adequate time to settle and heal after each treatment session.
